Labor Day Weekend Activities

This weekend marks the last official weekend of summer. With that, Labor day activities will be popping up all weekend long. The PHS Pop-Up Garden is celebrating this weekend with refreshing cocktails and scrumptious sides from Garces Group. On Monday, Labor Day, the Pop-Up will have extended hours from noon-10pm.

The Pop-Up Garden hasn’t slowed down yet! On September 12th, join them from 5-8pm for a Pop-Up Party. Buying a ticket for $15 can get you two drink tickets and endless guacamole from Chipotle. You can purchase tickets in advance and if you happen to be a PHS Young Friends Member, your evening just got a little sweeter as you can attend for free.

This weekend is packed with food, music and activities. Made in America Festival is back on the Ben Franklin Parkway with a stellar line-up for Saturday and Sunday. Nearly 30 artists will preform this weekend. Buy tickets now so you aren’t waisting your time in line! Saturday through Monday you can enjoy Cannstatter 141 Annual Volksfest offering performances, rides, raffles and crafts. This event is for all ages and admission is only $6. If jazz is more your style, be sure to stop over at Penn’s Landing on Friday for some smooth tunes by Jonathan Bulter at 7:30pm.

Spice it up with the 5th Annual BigBite Philly Wing King Competition at Fleisher Art Memorial on Saturday from 5-10pm. Judges from the Philly food scene will taste and sample entries for the best Wings. Being held in the yard of Fleisher Art Memorial, there will be an assortment of flavors and beverages provided by Narragansett Brewing Company. This event will be donating a portion of their proceeds to children and youth programs at Fleisher Art Memorial. For $15 a ticket you can enjoy wings, music and even a couple free drinks!

Holiday Second Saturday on East Passyunk Avenue  
Saturday, December 8, 11:00 a.m.

Enjoy an array of holiday themed activities all day up and down East Passyunk Avenue.  From pet photos with Santa to a charity toy drive to strolling musicians, there will be something for all members of the family.  For more information and a detailed schedule of the day’s events, click here.

Latkepalooza 2012 at the Gershman Y
Sunday, December 9, 2-4 p.m.

To kick off Chanukah, the Gershman Y has brought back by popular demand Latkepalooza. Some of the area’s hottest restaurants will go neck to neck to create the tastiest and most creative version of the Jewish food favorite. Restaurants includes Audrey Claire’sBar FerdinandEl Camino RealCitron & Rose plus a few more. Entertainment will be provided by West Philadelphia Orchestra and a performance for children by Music Monkey Jungle at 2:45 PM. Last year was a sell out so we recommend buying tickets in advance. Cost is $16 in advance and $18 at the door.

Bella Vista United’s Annual Christmas & Hanukkah Lighting Ceremony at Cianfrani Park (8th & Fitzwater) 
Monday, December 10 – 6:30 p.m.  

Featured guests are  Santa Claus (with gifts for all children in attendance), The Bella Vista Elf, Councilman Mark Squilla and holiday singers from Meredith Elementary School. Free hot chocolate for all. Rain or shine.

Spirits & Suds With Santa Bar Crawl on East Passyunk Avenue
Wednesday, December 12, 5:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Eat, drink and be merry on East Passyunk Avenue! Join Santa as he gets his jolly on at 12 East Passyunk bars, pubs and restaurants. The $5 admission gets you $3 craft beers, $4 merry cocktails and $5 snacks (select locations), a Santa or Elf hat and Santa’s Sipping Stamp Card. Registration will be held at Urban Jungle (1526-30 East Passyunk Avenue) from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

QOTA Holiday Party at Birra
Saturday, December 18, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Join Queer On The Avenue for festive cocktails, complimentary brick oven pizza and snacks, and great conversation. In the spirit of the season, QOTA will be collecting gift cards to help local needy families with their holiday shopping.
